This high gravity traditional old ale combines a warming sensation with a rich malty sweetness for an outstanding initial complexity. Fruity esters, hints of hot buttered rum, burnt caramel, and a subtle chocolate covered cherry quality dissolve into a dry spicy finish with a robust hop counter balance. When the snow flies and the winter winds begin to howl, we seem to instinctively put away the lighter quenching brews of summer and fall in favor of something richer and more substantial. This robust winter warmer is the perfect brew for curling up in front of the fire or providing a little liquid courage before braving the elements. It was first brewed and named during the demolition of the old Fourth and Washington parking structure when downtown felt like Jurassic Park and all of its neighbors needed something a little stronger to get us through! The Michigan Microbrewery and Brewpub Guide calls it, “an excellent, true-to-style beer with a subtle yet distinct chocolate covered cherry quality.” Try it with sharp or pungent cheeses, rare steak or spicy sausage, dark chocolate and a good after dinner cigar.
