One of the most elusive styles of Belgian ale, Saison was traditionally a lighter flavorful brew to quench and refresh those oh so thirsty seasonal farm laborers (a.k.a. Le Saissonniere).
A generous dose of Pilsner malt, flaked rye, wheat malt and Empire-grown hops (a new variety known as Empire) combined with fermentation by special Belgian brewing yeast gives a wonderful ambrosial mix of yeastiness, spicy- earthy hops, complex fruitiness and a dry tart/bitter finish.
