Launched in 2009 by Puget Sound natives, Travis Guterson and Mike Runion, 7 Seas Brewing Co. established shop near downtown beautiful Gig Harbor in a 1,500 sq. ft. building formerly used as a racquetball court. Sadly, just days before brewing operations were to commence, the building was ravaged by fire that started in a separate unit. Sometimes however, painful endings lead to new beginnings. Undaunted, the partners relocated to a 3,000 sq. ft. former auto body shop tucked away behind an old water tower amidst a forest of NW fir and cedar trees. Featuring a closet sized taproom, wooded beer garden, and a used 8.5 bbl brew- house, 7 Seas Brewing was born. By summer of '09, kegs were being self-distributed to local bars and restaurants. Later that year, the brewery became the first to utilize aluminum cans in Washington State, blazing a path of environmentally friendly packaging that has since been adopted by many others. The small, local brewery quickly gained the support of the community and additional tanks were installed in an effort to keep up with demand.

By 2012, it became clear that 7 Seas needed a larger home and moved into a 12,000 sq. ft. building that had previously housed a grocery store in the heart of historic downtown Gig Harbor. A 2,500 sq. ft. taproom was built and a new three vessel 25 bbl brew house was installed along with the original 8.5 bbl brew house. As production grew, 7 Seas partnered with several area distributors enabling their beer to reach all of Western Washington. Using the new, larger brew house to produce eight year-round beers and four seasonal beers, the smaller original brew house became an excellent tool for small batch experimentation, barrel-aging projects, and the creation of special beers exclusively available at the Taproom.

The partners began looking for a second location, situated in a building that could accommodate future growth and be their long-term home, purchasing a historic 80,000 sq. ft. building near downtown Tacoma in December of 2015, which originally housed the famous Heidelberg Brewery. Upon moving the larger brew house to Tacoma in the spring of 2016, installing new packaging equipment for cans and kegs, 7 Seas breathed new life into the old building, which hadn't brewed beer since 1979. In August of '16, they opened their doors to the public with a 10,000 sq. ft. Taproom, featuring beautiful custom wood tables and bars, a view of the brewing operations, 48 taps, and two areas for independent vendors offering delicious food and coffee roasted on site.

Today, 7 Seas operates both breweries and taprooms open everyday in Gig Harbor and Tacoma and distributes their beer throughout all of Washington. They've been voted 'Best Brewery in the South Sound' 7 years running by readers of South Sound Magazine. What started out as a humble two-man operation in 2009 now employs nearly thirty hardworking, talented individuals, provides more and more quality craft beer to the region and boasts two family-friendly, inclusive Taprooms.
