Across the river, decades ago, on a back road, on a short bus, on the first day of 5th grade, Brewmasters Jamie Bishop and Larry Stock decided to be friends and theyve been tight as a steel tank ever since. School was followed by years in suits, ties, sales and the suburbs, until one year when Jamies brilliant wife gave him a genius gift: a homebrew kit. Wed love to say a legend was born that day, but well be real instead. An obsession was born that day. Jamie and Larry arent quite interested in legendary status just yet. Theyre still too busy thinking of themselves as those little f*#ers on the bus. Only this time around, theyre driving it.
In their first 3 years at MHBC, they brewed over 35 distinct styles, never dumping an ounce. And still, each day, they try something new. If we start a fire, we let it burn, says Jamie. Hopefully we end up with something brilliant. Larry adds, Brewing beer is like jumping out of an airplane, you dont stop until you hit the ground. And sometimes you need that second or third chute. Thats where we earn our Brewer Boots!
Since 2013, Jamie and Larry have led MHBC to become a major player in the explosive craft beer scene coming out of the Hudson Valley, striving for the perfect balance of Art & Science. But they still feel like theyre just getting started. In 2016, MHBC expanded their brew pub and relocated most of their brewing operations to a nearly 8,000 sq. ft. facility with a 20 BBL system, right down the road from the Brew Pub.
And thats exactly where youll find these nerdbombs each day, writing and re-writing the stories they believe can be found in each of their brews. Jamie explains: Every beer has a story. A beginning, a middle and an end. The flavor, the aroma, the finish. People tell their favorite stories over and over same thing. With our beer, we hope youll always want to go back to the beginning and start again.
