KBC opened in 1992 under Owner, Fred Forsley, and British Master Brewer, Alan Pugsley. The original line-up of English-Style Ales included Goat Island Light, Shipyard Export Ale, Taint Town Pale Ale and Bluefin Stout. All of these are still brewed on site today! The demand for the Shipyard brand quickly outpaced production, and in 1994, the Shipyard Brewing Company opened in Portland, Maine. Now, all packaged Shipyard Ale production for distribution happens in Portland, while in Kennebunk these ales and many new creations are brewed daily to supply the draft lines upstairs at Federal Jack's Brewpub. In addition, Kennebunkport Brewing Company sells packed beer in growlers sales next to the brewery in the KBC Shipyard Store.
