Italy: the missing carnival characters

In this carnival article we want try to name other mask of the Italian carnival tradition, they are really many and each of them has its own story! Each Italian region has own origins, own costumes, own traditional foods and own craft beer preferences! But let’s go back to the masks...let’s get to know them better, from north to south Italy.

In the north of Italy, in the Bergamo city there are Arlecchino (you already know him) and Brighella. In Milan we meet Meneghino, a wise man who enjoy making fun of nobles and aristocrats for their vices. Moving to Venice, we can find Arlecchino’s wife, Colombina, courted by Pantalone, a rich merchant a miser latin lover! Still remaining in the north of Italy there are also Gianduia (some of you know gianduia for chocolate!) represented with a mug in his hand (wine? Beer?) and captain Spaventa a swordsman in love. Emilia Romagna region offer us the character of Balanzone and so on. We don’t want bore you but we believe that this is a charming tradition, today outclassed by the various Batman, Spiderman, Goku, ecc. Nobody sews costume for their children anymore, you don’t find Rugantino or Pulcinella in the squares, but you of course find many more commercial and less hand made costumes!

Can we make a comparison with beer? We really hope not! For this reason we promote culture, craft brewing culture. We want to make know to a wide audience the tradition that characterizes almost every part of the world! We want to sponsor small local realities of craft and qualitative production, we want help introduce craft beers and their characteristics to the world by trying to explain, to those who ignore it, what are the characteristics of this craft productions.

Here you can find a website where you can surf undisturbed among rivers of craft beer! Enjoy the reading!Don't forget to peek through the Italian craft beers! Cheers!
